Norfolk based Vix 20 list their influences like an A-Z of who is who in music from Abba to Zeppelin and everything in between. The truth is although they have a varied sound everything they do starts with power pop and goes from there. What we are left with is a sound that refuses to get into just one box no matter how many times you try to entice it to.
The band are made up of industry pro’s so it’s not surprising they’re loved by fans and critics alike. They are Gary Mills (guitar and vocals), CJ (guitar and vocals), Kill (bass) and Rich (drums) and are literally oozing talent from their sweaty rock and roll pores.
Their most recent release is called ‘Broken Medlody’ and we’re sure we won’t be the first to say this, but there is nothing broken about it. Nothing at all. Though you may play it so much and so loud that it breaks your speakers.
Sound-wise they move away from power pop and towards 70’s rock. Vocals are strong and full of flavour and so is the music which is a bit like being on a rollercoaster. The resulting soundscape is one of an almost psychedelic nature. Lyrically the song is thought-provoking especially for anyone that loves or hates the music industry. The band describe it as:
“A slightly sinister journey through joy n grief. Far removed from our usual power pop, an open letter to the music business.”

The song is definitely sinister and the piano and drums fill you with a sense of the grief that Vix 20 mention. Meanwhile, the guitars in the chorus hint a little at the joy, but you almost have to go looking for it to find it. The layered vocals add some depth to the music to match the depth of the lyrics.
We think this is definitely a track that will leave you curious as to what their back catalogue sounds like. So be prepared to fall down a Spotify rabbit hole and get lost in their music for a while.
