Marco Palos: Takes Us To ‘A Place We Don’t Know’ In A Vivid Dream

No, you’re not dreaming it’s all true, listen to one man move away from his Swing and Jazz roots and towards Indie Alt-rock

Marco Palos is best known for fronting the 9 piece ‘little-big band’ Phat Cat Swinger, who often perform for Disney. This time around he’s doing it on his own launching his solo career with the single,  ‘A Place We Don’t Know’. The track has been heavily influenced by bands like Coldplay, The Beatles, and Electric Light Orchestra.

If you want to spend about five minutes in a dream-like bliss this is the song for you. It starts with a greeting “Hello Stranger…” and a question “How you doing / is this another dream?” Before the listener jumps to answer they are transported into another universe, just as Palos intended.

We don’t know what’s more beautiful Palos smooth voice or the string arrangement provided by the very talented string quartet, Gemini Strings. They compliment each other perfectly throughout the song. Listeners will feel like they are actually in the trippy, dreamy soundscape that has been created.

Then just when you think the song may be coming to an end suddenly things start to escalate quickly. Dramatic drums begin building up to what is a climax. As if it is a wave that swells and then crashes onto the beach at your toes where you are sleeping blissfully unaware of the tide coming in.

The track itself has already received some attention after being featured in a viral video on Facebook. It was released today on what is World Sleep Day because it is inspired by a dream Marco had last summer, in which he stepped into an alternate universe. Apparently, he awoke with a sense of freedom to embark on a musical journey separate from the path that has brought him recognition to date and a desire to capture the essence of this alternate reality.

“That evening, I sat at the piano and let my hands wander until they landed on four chords that gave me a hauntingly sweet feeling inside and relaxed me so much that, when I closed my eyes, I felt as if I’d had a vision of an alternate life, an alternate reality. But it was probably just a dream, right?

That’s why I wanted to release ‘A Place We Don’t Know’ on World Sleep Day. I’m fascinated by the limitless abilities of the human mind. We can create entire universes and life experiences all without going anywhere ’A Place We Don’t Know’ captures the essence of the hope and mystery that have carried me through this bizarre time during lockdown.”
