Between City Lights is actually just one man, Connor Rezin, he plays guitar, bass, keyboard, drums and sings in all of the records. Needless to say, Rezin’s a talented guy and everything is recorded in his bedroom, where he records, mixes, and produces the tracks in his DIY studio. Speaking of the new EP, Talking Out Loud, he said:

“This new EP is the best thing I have created yet and I’m so excited to share it with everyone, it’s been a great experience recording and feeling it all come together, definitely a good indication of what’s to come next!”

The first song on this EP is called ‘Talking Out Loud’ this synth indie rock song has a funky beat and right from the first verse you are dragged into this new world. When it gets to the chorus and the song opens up into a beautiful soundscape and the vocals also become clearer. At this point, the quality of Rezins voice can be heard and it’s great.

We’re told the main inspiration for the track ‘Talking Out Loud’ is the inner thoughts we feel when we struggle to understand who we are, and what our purpose is. The added isolation of lockdown contributing to the loneliness we can experience at times like these.

Next up is ‘Space’ the intro builds up layer by layer leaving us in anticipation then that wonderful voice that you know and love from the first song jumps into the mix. There is something haunting about this song. The consistency of the drums holds everything steady as the listener travels through the space that the sound has created for them.

The final song on this short EP is ‘The Fires of 2003’ Straight away you can tell this song has more bite, there’s a kind of controlled anger behind the vocal quality. It’s a more upbeat offering but not in that dancey fun way but in a sense of urgency way instead.
