August Brodie: Making a splash in the scene and leaving his mark

Some people arrive in the music scene and some people explode onto it leaving a dent.

Canadian artist August Brodie has made his unique sound into a perfect song making machine. His musical journey didn’t start until a few years ago but it moved so fast he’s hardly touched the floor despite hitting the ground running.

The Spotify community has shown him a lot of attention and he currently has over twenty thousand listeners every month. I suppose it helps that he had a music video for the song ‘Long Distance’ premiered by MTV. Even that feat was achieved through good old fashioned word of mouth.

Brodie is from Thunder Bay, Ontario and he has explained to people that there isn’t much of a music scene there. As a result, he travelled away from Thunder Bay and headed towards Toronto.

If he’d been in a pop punk band he probably would have stayed and made a record about his washed-up town waiting around to get scouted by some A&R man. Brodie has more about him than that and took matters into his own hands.

He is however heavily influenced by pop punk and emo bands that he grew up on in the great 2000’s era we all remember so fondly. He took the R&B sound he had been working with, worked in some guitar and played around with combining the two genres to create something of his own.

Of course, he fits in perfectly because as a scene we move more towards the emergence of new genres each day.  So despite starting out in his room rapping he has had an amazing journey to get to where he is and there’s still so far for him to go. And trust us he will go far!
