We received our invitation to Dawn Someks sad party where we were promised to experience a spectrum of emotions and colours. Somek is a singer-songwriter based in Tel Aviv, Israel, she only started releasing her songs in English last year.
The song ‘Revolving Doors’ is about a toxic relationship hence revolving doors, when you go around and around in circles with the same person. Somebody that you just can’t seem to leave even though you know they’re bad for you.
Somek uses her music to bring us together and in this case, she tells us a story of obstacles overcome so we ourselves can begin to overcome ours. Or maybe she’s sharing the story so we can all reminisce about the situations we’ve already overcome.
However you look at it the track is something we can relate to if not in our own relationships then in those of the people we care about. When Somek asks “Am I just losing my mind” we can admit we’ve all felt that way at some point. The best part is it’s all mixed together in a haze of soulful pop music.
The track itself takes you into a deeper world with its influences found in soul and pop music. Somek who was trained as a singer from a young age combines her musical background and influences with her own unique sound to create music that is both then and now.
