Confronting your own mental health is not easy but it appears to make good subject matter for this epic EP.

Nuns of the Tundra are a Bristol-based band lucky enough to have their new EP, ‘The World’s Gone Crazy And So Have I’, recorded at Kore studios London. They won this opportunity in a BBC Introducing Live competition based on their already released tracks.

Their lineup completely changed before this recording process with the exception of frontman Troy Tittley. It made it a good time for a renewed sound making a record “that could not escape the world’s chaos from seeping in at the seams.” as the band described it. When talking about the recording process the Nuns of the Tundra explained:

“Under the guiding hand of industry veteran George Apsion, the old school method of recording as a live band instead of in separate layers was used to accentuate the Nun’s raw, rough and ready vibe. This gave birth to a real and wild version of the band’s  sound, feeding off the energy and passion of the moment.”

The EP starts with ‘Low’ with its dynamic drums and fuzzy sound the intro is slightly epic and could fit on the albums of acts with far more experience. There’s a slight silent pause before the chorus kicks in and lyrically we are taken through Tittleys feeling of highs and lows. Musically this is quite some 3 minutes and 23 seconds its drums are perfect as they thwack hard and the guitars are equally amazing.

Next up is ‘God’s and Wine’ which is definitely similar in skill and sound, it is almost as if System of a Down had a poppier little brother. The instrumental parts are absolutely engrossing and will make you hit the back button to listen again. We suggest that when you do you turn up the volume!

Last but not least is lead single ‘C’est La Vie’, a racing punk-driven track with an addictive chorus. The chorus in itself is quite poppy, more so than the verses that bring in an older feel. This could easily have come off of a record that was released 20 years ago or yesterday, it’s hard to tell. Lyrically it explores how we’ve all been feeling in lockdown concerned with our sanity whilst isolated from each other.

This short but wonderful EP came out on March 19th and is available to stream in all the usual places as well as physical copies available at the band website.
