London based singer-songwriter, Maki Flow, released her new single ‘Better Off Alone’ today. It is the first track from her debut EP Can’t Act My Age out later this year. We’re told that the song is her most relevant and poignant work to date and this may well be true.
The single is about standing tall on your own terms without needing other people to prop you up. She uses her own brand of disco-pop to deliver the message. Its been called “A pounding and electric slice of power pop” and it certainly is that, it’s a song that’s as iconic as it is anthemic.
The song also marks an important new era for Flow as she finds her own voice and independence through music. She’s finally standing on her own two feet not relying on anyone else but herself. This makes the message in her music even more important as she’s taking her own advice and finding out shes ‘Better Off Alone’ after all. Speaking about the track Flow says:
“I spent years in relationships back home in Italy, so used to being with someone and losing sight of who I really was. Then I moved to London on my own and began to realise I didn’t need someone by my side to make me feel worthy. It was then that I discovered how to stand on my own two feet.”

Flows vocals are exquisite over the thumping rhythm section, especially during the catchy chorus melody. When you listen to the track you can imagine being at a festival somewhere with Flow having the words sung back at her as she performs.
Bravely comparing the track to what Dua Lipa and Georgia would create if they ever collaborated her team are certain they have a hit on their hands. She certainly has been busy over the last few years working with some of the hottest international producers, so a hit would be well earned.
This could very well be her year so remember the name Maki Flow because she has a bright future ahead of her.
This song can be found on Amplified Magazine’s March 2021 New Music Playlist.
